Officer Neems with the Suffolk County Police Department visited fourth graders in Mrs. Murray’s class at Nassakeag Elementary School to introduce students to his police dog, Gunner. Officer Neems spoke about the role of working dogs in the police force.
Specifically, Gunner is trained to help locate explosive devices. Students learned about the training Gunner went through and how long a dog works in the K9 department before they can “retire.” The interactive visit connected students to first responders and heroes in the Three Village community.
