Students and their families participated in the Nasskeag Pre-K STEAM Celebration on June 7. Students took part in four hands-on stations.
The first station explored chemical reactions. Students filled a balloon with baking soda, fit the balloon over a water bottle containing vinegar, and watched as the gases inflated the balloon. At the bubble station, students made their own bubble wands out of pipe cleaners and pony beads. They compared their own wands, store-bought wands and drinking straws as they blew bubbles. At the third station, students tie-dyed t-shirts using markers, rubbing alcohol and eye droppers. The last station was focused on mixtures. Students measured and mixed milk, sugar and vanilla extract in a large bag. They placed their bag in a larger one containing ice and salt. Students worked with a partner to shake the mixture then enjoyed the fruits of their labor… ice cream!
