Prekindergarten students in Dawn McNally’s classes at W.S. Mount Elementary School helped to ring in the Year of the Wood Snake with several Lunar New Year celebrations.
Both classes had parades through the halls of Mount for the older classes to watch. The students wore red, played instruments and followed a large teacher-made dragon head with a long tail.
Parents of students in the morning and afternoon programs also helped to bring aspects of the celebration to life. In the morning class, Mr. and Mrs. Chen taught the class how to make dumplings using Play-Doh. Each student proudly took their creation home. In the afternoon class, Mrs. Li presented a PowerPoint she made about the holiday. She brought in spring rolls for the students to sample, and they each also took home a red lantern and a red envelope filled with gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins.
W.S. Mount Elementary School kindergarten students also worked to celebrate the holiday. With the help of Ms. Kane, Ms. Guistino and Ms. Wan, they created a gorgeous showcase display in honor of Lunar New Year. The students made the lanterns around the outside of the display.
