Setauket Elementary School fifth graders were treated to a visit from a weatherman on Dec. 2 to kick off their next module in the district’s new Into Reading program. Dr. Radell, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service and parent of a fifth grader in Mrs. Kraemer’s class, taught students all about natural disasters and the science of saving lives.
Students learned about tsunamis, hurricanes and the difference between weather watches and warnings. They also viewed photos and videos of the damage in their own Three Village community from this summer’s flash flooding. Mr. Radell reminded students that the National Weather Service’s mission is to protect life and property.
