Several students from the Three Village Central School District were recognized at the 11th annual Helen Stein Shack Picture Book Award ceremony, held April 7 at Emma Clark Library.
The contest invites students in grades 7-12 to create original children’s picture books. Winners are selected in two grade categories: 7-9 and 10-12.
Winners from Three Village included:
* Grades 7-9 First Prize: Yen Lo, eighth grade, Murphy JHS – “Benny and the Lost Balloon.”
* Grades 7-9 Second Prize: Athie Kim, eighth grade, Murphy JHS – “Dinky.”
* Grades 10-12 First Prize: Joyce Lee, 10th grade, Ward Melville HS – “What’s a Friend?”
* Grades 10-12 Second Prize: Elizabeth Wright, 10th grade, Ward Melville HS – “Kitty and Fish.”
Winning books were added to the library’s Local Focus Collection. Prizes were supported by the Helen Stein Shack family endowment. District leaders and staff joined the community in celebrating the students’ creativity and achievements.
