Ward Melville High School is proud to announce the selection of its 2025 valedictorian and salutatorian. Congratulations to valedictorian Oliver Wu and salutatorian Alexander Song.
Valedictorian Oliver Wu is a standout scholar and leader whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. With a passion for ethics, politics and economics, he brings a thoughtful and nuanced perspective to issues of race, ethnicity and immigration. His current research at Stony Brook University, under Professor Yi Wang, explores how language and race shape transnational decisions – a project that reflects both his intellectual depth and his drive to build a more inclusive society.
Within our school community, Oliver leads with purpose and creativity. As editor-in-chief of The Kaleidoscope newspaper, he has revitalized the print edition, coordinated interviews with local politicians, and covered stories that amplify important civic issues. His leadership extends to the arts, where he serves as president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Long Island Youth Development (LIYD) Music Club, organizing benefit concerts and music outreach events that raise funds for local causes and promote a vibrant musical culture.
Oliver approaches every challenge with grit, every opportunity with energy and every interaction with genuine curiosity. His passion, resourcefulness and integrity have made him an inspiration to both peers and faculty alike.
Salutatorian Alexander Song is an ambitious and well-rounded individual who excels in both academics and extracurricular activities. He possesses a deep passion for mathematics and is also an accomplished violinist. His accolades include being named a National Merit Semifinalist and receiving Distinguished Honor Roll recognition in the annual AMC international math competition.
Alexander serves as captain of the Ward Melville Iron Patriots Robotics Team. He is a violinist in the Chamber Orchestra honors-level performance group and performed at the 2024 All-State Winter Conference. As a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, Alexander has volunteered for numerous community service events. Outside of his school engagements, he has participated in the Manhattan School of Music precollege program for the past six years. Additionally, he serves as a teaching assistant at SchoolNova, specializing in mathematics and physics. As president of the Long Island Youth Development Math Club, Alexander works with younger students to build their mathematical skills.
Alexander is an exceptional student and a dedicated member of his community. He possesses a zest for knowledge and a strong desire to share his love of learning with others.
The faculty and staff of Ward Melville High School congratulate Oliver and Alexander on achieving the top academic honors of the Class of 2025 and wish them the best in their future endeavors.
