Kindergarten and first grade campers in the Summer Recreation Program turned into doctors and nurses during the Teddy Bear Clinic hosted by Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Nurses visited the programs at Minnesauke and Mount Elementary Schools for an interactive safety education presentation.

Students first learned about car and helmet safety. They read a story about how to be good passengers and acted out different car scenarios. The nurses also reinforced the importance of wearing a helmet through an egg drop demonstration.

The campers then dressed up as doctors to participate in the Teddy Bear Clinic. Using stuffed animals brought from home, they made a diagnosis and provided care to their “injured” toys. The activities all focused on injury prevention and ways for young students to keep themselves safe.
