Setauket Elementary School celebrated The Great Kindness Challenge the week of Jan. 22, which is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible at school.
Students participated in a chain link grade level challenge where they were encouraged to perform acts of kindness and acknowledge when others do. When either a student or a teacher witnessed a student performing an act of kindness, they were awarded with a chain link. These links were given out to the students who go above and beyond to make a significant difference.
On Jan. 29, all chain links were connected by grade level and were measured by the building’s physical education staff. The entire building came together in the hallways for this challenge which led to an exciting afternoon. In the end, fifth grade came in first place for the longest kindness chain!
