Voting Activities

Voting Activities thumbnail262320

Ahead of election day, students across different grade levels spoke about democracy and the voting process. For example, Carole Huston and Joan Nickeson from the League of Women Voters visited Mr. Miller’s AP United States Government classes and Mr. Ayrovainen’s Power, Politics, and Civic Engagement class at Ward Melville High School. This session provided a meaningful link between classroom learning and real-world applications, enhancing the curriculum’s focus on civic responsibilities.

The district’s youngest learners also participated in voting activities. Pre-K students in Ms. Stimmel’s class at Setauket Elementary School discussed election day, what a ballot is and how voting works. Students then voted on their favorite activity – yoga, four corners or playground – and tallied up the votes to determine the winner. They were proud to receive “I Voted” stickers in class.
